Holophane’s Prismalumes Increase Light Levels at Wellington Pool
Switching to Holophane’s enclosed Prismalume luminaires has provided Wellington Swimming Pool in Telford, Shropshire with an increase in light levels with no increase in energy consumption. The upgrade has also improved the quality of the lit environment for staff and customers alike, providing a pleasant natural white light.
It was discovered that there was a problem with the pool side illumination when refurbishment was being conducted on the swimming pool plant. Prismalume luminaires from Holophane were initially chosen for their aesthetic appeal when viewed on the website by Michael Hemming from Telford and Wrekin Council. It soon became clear that Prismalume was also perfect from a technical point of view, as it offers an unprecedented controlled light output ratio of up to 95% and could be supplied in an enclosed version, making it safe for pool users as any shattered lamps could not drop into the water.
The ultimate in visual appeal, Holophane’s Prismalume has specially designed prismatic glass reflector/refractors that create a totally luminous environment by projecting light directly onto the required area whilst at the same time illuminating the walls and ceiling without shadows. Installation costs are reduced as fewer lines of luminaires need be used whilst maintaining the specified uniformity criteria.
Tight time scales had to be met to ensure that the Leisure Centre opened on the planned date, which meant that Holophane had to react quickly with its design support. Michael Hemming commented “Holophane already had a proven track record with us and they certainly came up trumps with this installation. We opened on time with the result we were looking for and feed back from users of the pool has been very positive”.
